Swoosh — Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 22, 2026
Overview
Swoosh is a browser extension that replaces your new tab page with a dashboard
showing all your open tabs grouped by domain. This policy explains what data the
extension accesses and how it is handled.
Data the extension accesses
- Open tab URLs and titles — read to display your tabs grouped by domain on the dashboard.
- Tab activity timestamps — tracked locally to detect stale tabs (idle for a configurable duration, default 4 hours) and compute time spent per domain.
- Bookmarked tabs ("Saved for later") — URLs and titles you choose to save are stored locally so they persist across sessions.
How your data is used
- All data is used exclusively to power the features visible to you in the extension UI.
- Session statistics (time per domain, tabs closed per day) are aggregated locally and displayed in the "Today" section of the dashboard.
- No data is used for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond showing you your own tab activity.
Data storage
- All data is stored in
chrome.storage.local — on your device only.
- Session stats older than 30 days are automatically deleted.
- No database, no server, no cloud sync of any kind.
Data sharing
Swoosh does not transmit, sell, share, or expose any of your browsing data to any
third party — ever. The extension makes no external network requests. All data
stays on your device.
Permissions explained
- tabs — required to read tab URLs, titles, favicons, and activity timestamps for the dashboard.
- storage — required to persist saved tabs, daily stats, and user preferences locally on your device.
- bookmarks — required to save stale tabs to a bookmark folder before closing them.
- search — required to trigger a web search using your default search engine when you press Enter in the tab search bar.
Children's privacy
Swoosh does not knowingly collect any information from children under 13.
The extension collects no personal information from any user.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL with a revised
"Last updated" date. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance
of the updated policy.
